I’ve joined a crafty inspiration group. It’s small – just 3 people and we haven’t even officially met yet. More on the group when we get it going. For our first meeting, we are all supposed to bring something made with hexagons. This was a good assignment because I’ve never tried hexagon patchwork before and I gotta say, it’s kinda hard! Makes me appreciate hexagon cheater cloth.
Piecing took much longer than I expected and when I was finished, I wasn’t liking what I saw. And what I saw was this: Chaos. I think with these prints, smaller hexagons may have been a better choice. Even though it wasn’t turning out like I hoped, I tried really hard to view problem solving as a good thing – a way to think outside the creative box. I decided to add some little dots on the intersecting seams and see if it helped.
before dots and after
The dots create a little order to the chaos. But they needed something to help them stand out so they could do their job, like some free stitching around the outside. And I’m always ready to put some free stitching somewhere on a project.
pop!
The cushion is quilted front and back with a side tie opening. I even put in one of those little flaps in the opening that hides the insert (proud of myself for figuring that out).
The final verdict: likey.
A strong border brings a little more order to chaos. But now when I look at it, I hardly see the hexagons at all. Funny how that happens.
Check out Cindy’s hexagons here.
WOW that looks great! I can never think of stuff to make for myself!!
Thanks, Amanda! Still not sure if I’m going to keep it, but for now I’ll hang onto it until my crafty group’s next meeting.
over achiever!! Great pillow!
Awww, thanks, Cindy! Can’t wait to see what you come up with.
The colors of the bed spring to the eye! That cushion is so beautiful!

That turned out great! I have to say that I wouldn’t have that that adding little “dots of dots” would have calmed that down… but it did!
So cute!
How cute and cheerful – as is the bed. I really ought to bring a little more bright colour into my house. Especially as one of the yellow rooms is going be a grey room soon. Well, when I get around to picking up a paintbrush, that is…
You did such a lovely job! Your photos have really shown how something can look one way while you are making it, but it can turn out completely wonderful by the time you’re done. This is cute and vibrant – just what is needed while we wait out these last couple weeks of winter.
Thanks for your kind words, Crystal! I love the yellow in our guest room, but the orange adds a much-needed pop. And I didn’t even plan it – so nice when it works out that way. 🙂 Winter will soon be behind you – we are well into spring here.

Aw, this was an exceptionally nice post. Taking a few minutes and actual effort to create a good article… but what can I say… I hesitate a whole
lot and don’t manage to get anything done.
