Hexagon Chaos

I’ve joined a crafty inspiration group.  It’s small – just 3 people and we haven’t even officially met yet.  More on the group when we get it going. For our first meeting, we are all supposed to bring something made with hexagons.  This was a good assignment because I’ve never tried hexagon patchwork before and I gotta say, it’s kinda hard!  Makes me appreciate hexagon cheater cloth.

Piecing took much longer than I expected and when I was finished, I wasn’t liking what I saw.  And what I saw was this:  Chaos.  I think with these prints, smaller hexagons may have been a better choice.  Even though it wasn’t turning out like I hoped, I tried really hard to view problem solving as a good thing –  a way to think outside the creative box.  I decided to add some little dots on the intersecting seams and see if it helped.

The dots create a little  order to the chaos.  But they needed something to help them stand out so they could do their job, like some free stitching around the outside. And I’m always ready to put some free stitching somewhere on a project.

The cushion is quilted front and back with a side tie opening.  I even put in one of those little flaps in the opening that hides the insert (proud of myself for figuring that out).

The final verdict:  likey.

A strong border brings a little more order to chaos.  But now when I look at it, I hardly see the hexagons at all.  Funny how that happens.
