The Car Organizer Pattern

I am really excited about how this pattern turned out!  Huge thanks to my test-sewers for their suggestions and design suggestions.

Here are some closeups:
On the floor in the front of the van.  I took Karen’s suggestion (great idea, Karen!) to have a pocket for recharging the phone and to hold some pens.  Fabric combo on this one is Midwest Modern and a pillowcase I had.

Who knew I’d become a plastic surgeon during this process?
Those are my legs – ugly veins photoshopped out. :o )

Filled with things to keep the kids busy on the road:

And the best part? The seatbelt flap that prevents the organizer from flying off the seat! All credit for this design element goes to Lara and her hubby. Thank you!

And finally, one more cute fabric combo- Midwest modern and Ginger Blossom

How can I be so excited about a box?  I don’t know, but I am!

Pattern is available on my site here.

Well, I am excited too! You know I am crazy about your idea. These patterns are going to fly off the shelf for you! I hope you bulk ordered. Love the new site too! So crisp and clean. Love it!

I loved sewing this project and will post a pic on my new blog http://www.tryingtraditional.wordpress.com as my old adoption one I do not post to anymore (though if anyone is interested in international adoption there is a TON of info on that blog still.)

Thanks for the opportunity to give it a try and the pattern looks great!

Very nice, thanks for the photos. It’s always nice to see a project in use. I love the seatbelt idea, and it would be great for tucking grocery ads, or a city map into if it was being used up front. My mother in law’s van could desperately use this… so I’ll put it onto my list of things to make for Christmas.

I have the pattern, and I’m going to start on it tomorrow!! My friend is opening a fabric store, and asked me to make one for display. I was thrilled because I have been wanting on e since you first started posting about it!

Thanks for the link! I’m so happy it has a cell phone pocket. I ordered my pattern on Monday. My goal is to have it done before I leave for a road trip next week. Crossing my fingers!!!!

I must have one for my minivan but I’ll never get around to sewing it :( Do you sell them ready made? I love the one with the trash compartment…..my latte cups are taking over! Email me :)

Wow! I think it makes total sense to get excited about a box–especially such lovely ones!

Kinda makes me miss my van…

LOVE it! I can easily see three of these in my van, one for me, one for the kids and one for the dog! I think I am going to have to get the pattern. Is it relatively easy to make, as in do you think I can do it?

I use Both of the ones I have! One for the car, and one by the stairs to corral all misplaced things. Dave’s been asking for one. Maybe you can trade him services!!

This is SO wonderful!! Will you be selling these premade for those of us that are sewing challenged?

  14. 15 Bec July 2, 2008 at 7:06 pm

This is so cool! I’m going to have to pass it along!

  15. 16 alice July 2, 2008 at 9:24 pm

Wow — you should definitely sell those! I’d buy one in a jiffy. Great design.

Cool! I hope to make one someday. (We have that same 1-100 dot to dot book.)

What great organisers. Love the fabrics and patterns. Such great ideas. Wish my car was large enough to have one in it.

  18. 20 Casey July 7, 2008 at 3:46 pm

I love this!! I must make a couple! well, if the first one turns out good :)

I can’t tell you how much I love this!! Your mix of fabrics make it look even cooler. I would love to make one, but I’m terrified of using all that interfacing. I think I need to get over that!

So that organizer is awesome! I love it and I really want to get the pattern and make one, but I ordered the diaper bag pattern from you like in November and still have not finished it … but I was wondering if you sold already made ones any where?

  21. 23 Ann July 8, 2008 at 6:06 pm

LOVE it! However, my sewing skills are quite limited; do you sell them already made?

  22. 24 amandajean July 9, 2008 at 10:03 pm

I’ve gotten pretty excited over a box I made, too, so I understand. :)

    Hey you!!
I have been commenty challenged these days…but I still peak my head in from time to time! I am so proud of you, of your designs and quality in creativity and craft. Definately hang up the patterns…or at least pics of the bags…to keep it flowing. And I think there is a huge market to sell the “already made” for those of us that are sewing “challenged”. Happy summer, and rock climbing is over rated, at least for those of us with kids, hee hee

LOVE IT! I have a basket I tote because hubby and I switch cars a lot and it’s nice to have to only move 1 thing — but I love how yours is so organized. I’m on it! :) K

  25. 27 Mary July 12, 2008 at 11:19 am

    That is completely fabulous!

  26. 28 Kimmie July 14, 2008 at 8:16 pm

I love this and I am insanely jealous that you have room on the seat to put this. We are currently in a 8 seater suburban named Katrinka who is full with all of us. We are waiting on God to add two more children to our family (and thus a larger tank). Perhaps in the new car we could use several of these…how many do you recommend for 8 children. ;-)

Not sure I have the skill needed to sew this, but it truly is amazing.
